So you read the last blog about anxiety but then you were left wondering about which essential oils to use and how to use them. There are many oils which can help to reduce anxiety, but as you can see below, all the oils have a different angle on the treatment on anxiety. Next to the English name of the oil is the latin name which is very important when using essential oils for therapy. You can choose oils according to how they help anxiety and/or by which oils you actually like the smell of. Obviously, if you are using essential oils to treat anxiety, it is very important that you use high quality pure essential oils. Also, if you scroll down to the bottom of this post, there are some blends that you could make for anxiety.
Benzoin Styrax benzoin: This is a warming oil which helps to reduce anxiety. It is a very soothing and uplifting oil.
Bergamot Citrus bergamia: This is a soothing, calming and uplifting oil. It relieves anxiety and fear. It also dispels negativity, replacing it with joy and positivity.
Cedarwood Atlas Cedrus atlantica: This is a warming, uplifting and comforting oil. It helps keeps us in the present and is relaxing. It also helps encourage positivity and decrease anxiety.
Chamomile Roman Anthemis nobilis: This oil is good for supporting emotional stability and remaining positive. It is also relaxing.
Clary sage Salvia sclarea: This oil is a warming, relaxing and calming oil. It gives a sense of wellbeing and even euphoria and helps reduce feelings of negativity. It reduces fear and anxiety and can help with phobias.
Frankincense Boswellia carterii: This oil reduces fear and helps us exist in the present. It helps to deal with panic and it really helps to reduce the effects of a sudden fear or panic, such as that induced by nightmares. It also helps with obessions.
Geranium Pelargonium graveolens: This is a soothing and balancing oil. It helps harmonize the mind and restores a sense of wellbeing and reduces anxiety.
Jasmine Jasminum officinale: This is a warming and uplifting oil which helps dispel anxiety, depression, negative feelings and fears. It also boosts self worth and inspires hope.
Lavender Lavandula angustfolia: This is a soothing, relaxing and healing oil. It is centering and gives a sense of peace and comfort. It treats insomnia and shock and reduces anxiety. It is particularly useful with compulsive behaviour and for those are anxious about their health.
Neroli Citrus aurantium: This oil has to be my favourite oil for reducing anxiety. It helps deal with emotional fears and supports with positivity even in times of sorrow and gives a feeling of peace. It also gives a sense of hope.
Petitgrain Citrus aurantium: This is a calming, uplifting and refreshing oil which reduces anxiety.
Rose Rosa damascena: This oil is a very nurturing oil and positively effects emotions even during times of grief and great stress. It increases self esteem and reduces feelings of self doubt, fear and insecurity. It provides compassion and reduces anxiety. It is a particularly suitable oil for deep seated anxiety.
Ylang ylang Cananga odorata:This is a relaxing and soothing oil. İt lowers blood pressure and opens the heart to positivity. It brings about a feeling of peace and reduces shock, panic, fear and anxiety.
How can these oils be used to reduce anxiety?
The most practical is with the use of an inhaler, rollon, 2 drops on a tissue or diffuser/oil burner. The oils can also be mixed with distilled water and put into a mister. What can also help though, if you have the time, is using the oils in a bath. When using in a bath don’t forget to drop the oils into a 1 tablespoon of carrier such as sea salt, apple cider vinegar, milk or oil. For adults use a maximum of 8 drops in a bath, but don’t put the essential oil mixture in until the bath is ready and you are ready to get in, otherwise they just evaporate before you get into the bath!
The oils can be used singularly, but sometimes a synergy can really help.
